Prestige Gallery is honoured to present Into the Life of Things, the first solo exhibition in Southeast Asia by artist Zeng Jianyong, in Singapore.

Bringing together major works created between 2017 and 2026, the exhibition spans 6 key series of Zeng Jianyong – Tangram; Folk Landscape; Animals; Mountains, Seas and Flora; Mustard Seed Garden and Wuyou Garden—alongside copper works, paper pulp works, and drawings created on site, including 17 previously unexhibited works that will make their debut in Singapore.

The exhibition treats whole works as a ‘garden’ in which images, objects, materials, and viewers remain in active relation, tracing a current running through the transformations of Zeng Jianyong’s practice: how ink has moved beyond depicting the world to become a means of bringing a world into being. Here, rocks, water, plants, and animals are no longer passive subjects awaiting human observation. Paper, ink, mineral pigment, humidity, gravity, and time all participate in the making of the work.

Finally, the exhibition wants to emphasize that “life”(in the title) refers to a world of animacy in which ink and nature exist in symbiosis. It is closer to a form of subjecthood and a capacity for becoming in the painting: mountains and waters follow their own paths; plants have their own savage patterns of growth; animals inhabit senses different from us; and even paper possesses its own tension and resilience. The exhibition thus offers a new way of looking at ink. It invites viewers to join Zeng Jianyong in seeking the ink world that he created—an ink world that is still unfolding, one that has never waited for humanity to grant it life because it has always already been alive.

Prestige Gallery is committed to fostering meaningful exchanges in contemporary Asian visual culture within a global context, bridging continuity and transformation while opening up multiple pathways for international dialogue around contemporary ink art.

About the artist Zeng Jianyong

Zeng Jianyong (b. 1971, China), a prominent contemporary ink painter in China, studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and has achieved notable auction success in recent years. His work draws on traditional Chinese landscape compositions, employing techniques like chaffing, rubbing, dotting, and dyeing to craft intricate natural scenes.
Using Yunlong paper, toner, and his unique “back-to-front” painting method, Zeng creates textured effects reminiscent of Song Dynasty paintings. His hazy southern landscapes exude warmth and depth, establishing him as a distinctive figure in Chinese contemporary art.
